Thirsty for some award-winning wines? We are, too!

This post was most recently updated on July 20th, 2022

There is so much wine available that making an informed selection about which one to buy might be difficult. Sure, you might choose a producer or a type that appeals to you – these are typically solid guidelines – but if you want to be extra confident that your wine will impress you, the best place to begin is right here with this list as you will be left speechless by these award-winning beverages.

Take a moment to savour.

A crowd favourite from the St. Davids Bench, this revolutionary winemaker has been seen as a benchmark since the 2000s for her delicious chardonnay. Bursting with a bright approachability (much like its owner), this vino has a palate of honey and caramel, with hints of lemon orchard fruit followed by a youthful, lemony cream crisp finish. Vegetarians rejoice; this drop pairs ideally with some finger-licking veggies.

Legendary Lincoln cab syrah

Almost no introduction is necessary for this wine. The last vintage cases sold out in record time, and once you try it, you’ll understand why. This is the legendary Niagara region cab syrah. Vibrant berry and licorice over earthy and spicy undertones held together with a lashing of toasty oak that melds into the wine seamlessly. It’s a classic style that varies just a little from vintage to vintage, and it’s bloody fantastic. It’s got the same supreme freshness as a feature, with depth and darkness and just a hint of peppercorn. There’s no questioning the impeccable quality of this wine.

Savoury sense of place

This wine is one of my favourites since it is made with grapes collected from Ravine vineyards and some of the most beautiful vineyards in Niagara on the Lake. This is arguably the most popular red variety to deal with in Niagara. It is unique because it can acquire maturity and intensity on the palate in firmness and acidity by focusing on the vineyards.

Game-changing Gamay

Our producer needs no introduction, but we’ll give you one anyway. The one and only London Born Wine Co. are royalty in the Beamsville Bench, having been there since 2011. Their story is one of family, passion, and above all of harnessing life’s great pleasures: good wine, food, and friends.

When beer or wine won’t do

This bone-dry cider is produced from 100 percent fresh-pressed pears in the heart of St. Davids Bench. Almost Champagne-like, refreshing, palate-coating and downright delicious, this juice is perfect for drinking at any time of day.

I hope I made picking the best award-winning beverages easier for the upcoming Canada Day celebrations, but until then, what’s your favourite award-winning wine right now?
